Harmonica Almanac – November 6

Marching band director John Philip Sousa was born on this day in 1854. Sousa endorsed Hohner harmonicas and wrote a march, “The Harmonica Wizard”.

Austin, Texas harmonica player and teacher Michael Rubin was born on this day in 1969. Michael began playing when he was 16 years old and has worked as a studio musician, appearing on several albums as well as recording on his own.

Country singer-songwriter guitar and harmonica player Hank Thompson played well enough to winning several talent contests as a child on the harmonica. He switched to guitar after seeing Gene autry and went on to record dozens of albums of his music. Thompson died on this day in 2007.
