Comedian Adolph “Harpo” Marx actually played the harmonica and there is a scene in the movie “Go West” where he where he may or may not have actually played. Marx was born on this day in 1888.

Blues singer and harmonica player Little Mike Markowitz was born on this day in 1955. Markowitz began playing the harmonica when he was fourteen and founded the band, Little Mike and the Tornadoes in 1978. He’s also worked on albums with Hubert Sumlin, Pinetop Perkins and other Blues greats.

Blues singer, guitar and harmonica player Robert Lucas began playing the harmonica as a teenager and later worked with his guitar teacher, Bernie Pearl as a duet. Lucas went solo in 1990, recorded several albums and even did a short stint playing in the group, Canned Heat. Lucas died on this day in 2008.

That’s it for today. Have fun and practice!
