Harmonica Almanac – November 2

U.S. president Warren G. Harding was born on this day in 1865. Harding was a harmonica enthusiast and kept a collection of them in the White House during his short term in office.

Blues singer and harmonica player Mark Wenner has been the front man for the band, The Nighthawks since 1972. In addition to playing with The Nighthawks, he’s recorded several albums of solo material and appeared as a guest on several albums. Wenner was born on this day in 1948.

Blues legend Mississippi John Hurt died on this day in 1966. Hurt had been playing music professionally since he was ten years old. He recorded several Classic blues songs in the late 1920’s, but the dropped out of music. He was re-discovered during the Folk music revival of the 1960’s and worked steadily until his death.
