Harmonica Almanac – May 31
Pope Pius XI was born on this day in 1857. While it is not certain whether he actually played the harmonica, the Hohner company gave him a gift of a harmonica with an ivory comb and gold, gem-encrusted covers.
Country singer-songwriter, guitar and harmonica player Mac Odell began working in radio during the 1930’s and recorded several albums worth of his music. From the 1950’s on, he worked primarily as a songwriter. Odell was born on this day in 1916.
French Blues harmonica player Vincent Bucher was born on this day in 1962. Bucher began playing the harmonica at the age of seventeen and got some lessons from Sugar Blue. He is based out of France and performs regularly.
