
Herb Shriner
Humorist and harmonica player Herb Shriner was born on this day in 1918. Shriner began his career as a harmonica player on the radio and when he started doing comedic monologues to fill in dead air space he became a top comedian. Shriner later had a TV showed and regularly featured harmonica players as his guests.

Harmonica Mike Handler
Blues guitar and harmonica player “Harmonica” Mike Handler was born on this day in 1947. Mike has been playing since 1965 and currently plays with Marc & Mike’s Country Blues Revue, based out of Santa Fe, New Mexico. The band has several CD’s and has won several major awards.

Roman Griswold
Blues singer, organ and harmonica player Roman Griswold joined his brother Art to form the group, The Griswolds in 1959. They started recording in the 1960’s and continued performing and recording well into the 2000’s. Griswold died on this day in 2012.

Doc Watson
Country guitar and harmonica player Doc Watson died on this day in 2012. Watson was best known for his flat-picking style of guitar playing, but he also played the harmonica, usually on a neckbrace.
