Harmonica Almanac – March 5

Classical composer Heitor Villa-Lobos was born on this day in 1887. Villa-Lobos wrote “Concerto for Harmonica, W. 524” in 1956 for John Sebastian.

Blues guitar player J.B. Lenoir could also play the harmonica. He worked with Blues legends Elmore James, Sonny Boy Williamson II, Memphis Minnie, Muddy Waters and many others. Lenoir was born on this day in 1929.

Rocker Mark E. Smith was born on this day in 1957. Smith founded the English Alternative band, The Fall, in which he sang, played keyboards and harmonica.

That’s it for today. Have fun and practice!

I am the author of "The Encyclopedia of the Harmonica", which is still available on the internet in limited edition.
