Vaudeville harmonica player Ray Tankersley was born on this day in 1921. Ray played with the Harmonica Rascals in the 1930’s and 40’s as well as with the secret band that Johnny Puleo tried to put together in 1942.
Blues drums, guitar and harmonica player Juke Boy Bonner was playing professionally on the radio by the time he was 18. He only lived into his mid-50’s, but recorded over a dozen albums of his music. Bonner was born on this day in 1932.
Lead singer for the Yardbirds, Keith Relf was born on this day in 1943. Relf was a Blues enthusiast who loved to play harmonica on most of the group’s hit records. Relf was heavily influenced by Billy Boy Arnold and the Yardbirds once worked as the back-up band for Sonny Boy Williamson II.
Blues guitar and harmonica player Frank Edwards began playing music professionally in 1923 and within three years he was working with Tampa Red. He spent the rest of his life working on and off in music. Edwards died on this day in 2002.
