Harmonica Almanac – March 14

Country singer-songwriter Cousin Emmy was born on this day in 1903. Emmy was multi-talented fusing comedy with music, she played several instruments, including the harmonica.
Blues singer, guitar and harmonica player Andy Rodgers also went by the name “The Midnight Cowboy”. Both Sonny Boy Williamsons used to visit his mother’s home when he was growing up and he got harmonica lessons from them. Rodgers was born on this day in 1922.
Bluegrass guitar, mandolin, banjo and harmonica player Bob Paisley was born on this day in 1931. Paisley began playing the harmonica in his childhood and played with the Southern Mountain Boys from 1964 until he founded Southern Grass in 1979.
Country singer-songwriter Michael Martin Murphey plays the guitar and harmonica. Amongst his many accomplishments, he taught Don Brooks how to play in the cross-harp position. Murphey was born on this day in 1945.
French harmonica player Christelle Berthon was born on this day in 1969. Christelle began playing music at the age of four but didn’t pick up the harmonica until she was 24. She’s come a long way since then, becoming a YouTube sensation.
