Classical composer Henry Cowell was born on this day in 1897. Cowell wrote “Concerto for Harmonica and Orchestra” in 1961 for John Sebastian.
Blues singer and harmonica player Dusty Brown taught himself to play the harmonica at the age of 13 while growing up in Mississippi. He moved to Chicago when he was seventeen and worked with Muddy Waters, Little Walter and many others. Brown was born on this day in 1929.
Blues harmonica legend Sonny Terry died on this day in 1986. Terry is still one of the most admired harmonica players for his distinctive style. He spent the better part of his career working with guitarist Brownie McGhee.
