Dewey Corley

Blues musician Dewey Corley was born on this day in 1898. Corley played several instruments and started playing the harmonica while he was a child growing up in Arkansas. During the 1920’s he played in several jug bands in the Memphis area and continued playing and recording music well into the 1970’s.

Jerry “Boogie” McCain

Jerry “Boogie” McCain

Blues guitar and harmonica player Jerry “Boogie” McCain began playing the harmonica at the age of five. From the late 1940’s on he performed and recorded over a dozen albums of his music. McCain was born on this day in 1930.

Don “Sugarcane” Harris

Don “Sugarcane” Harris

Multi-instrumentalist Don “Sugarcane” Harris was born on this day in 1938. Harris played the harmonica and often cited Little Walter and Jimmy Reed as being major influences on his music. Harris played in a number of styles and worked with a number of different artists from Frank Zappa to John Mayall to Little Richard.
