Harmonica Almanac – January 3

Blues singer, guitar and harmonica player Willie Morris Jr. was born on this day in 1925. Morris made several recordings in the 1950’s on the Decca label, but gave up music entirely after injuring his hand in 1968.

Country multi-instrumentalist Larry McNeely was born on this day in 1948. Though he is best known for his banjo playing, harmonica was one of the instruments he’s played and he’s worked with such greats as Glen Campbell, Roy Acuff and Barbara Mandrell.

Blues harmonica player Harmonica Fats died on this day in 2000. He got his first harmonica at the age of three from his father and began playing professionally in 1956.

That’s it for today. Have fun and practice!
