Harmonica Almanac – January 22

Blues harmonica player Hammie Nixon was born on this day in 1908. Nixon learned to play the harmonica from Noah Lewis and he worked with Sleepy John Estes on and off from 1924 until 1977.

Bluesman Big Leon Brooks had a short, but notable career as a harmonica player, first in his native Mississippi, then later in Chicago. Brooks was able to record one album before he died on this day in 1982.
