Chord harmonica player Manny Smith was born on this day in 1921. Manny played with the Stagg McMann trio and was one of the nicest guys I got to know while working on my book.

Lester Davenport learned to play harmonica at the age of 5 and even took harmonica lessons from Snooky Pryor. During his career he played with Bo Diddley, The Kinsey Report as well as working as a solo Blues artist. He was born on this day in 1932.

Country Singer Jim Stafford was born on this day in 1944. Stafford plays several instruments including the harmonica.

Country studio musician Mike Henderson has been a part of the Nashville music scene since the 1980’s, playing several instruments, including the harmonica. He was born on this day in 1954.

Japanese harmonica player Tetsuya “Tex” Nakamura was born on this day in 1962. Tex has mastered many of the American Blues harmonica styles and even did a stint playing harmonica in the band War.

Italian Jazz harmonica player Bruno Defillipi died on this day in 2010. He began playing guitar at the age of seven and in the 1970’s he began playing the harmonica, recording several really nice albums of great harmonica jazz.
