Harmonica Almanac – February 17

Country singer, guitar and harmonica player George York was born on this day in 1910. York worked primarily with his brother Leslie as “The York Brothers”. The two began recording in the late 1930’s and eventually became members of the Grand Old Opry.
Jazz harmonica player Sandy German started out on the trumpet, but began playing the harmonica after seeing Larry Adler play in a movie. He dropped out of music for many years, but got back into playing after attending a SPAH convention. German was born on this day in 1932.
Folk singer-songwriter Bob Bovee was born on this day in 1946. Bovee has been making music since the 1970’s and like many Folk singers he usually plays the harmonica on a neckbrace while playing the guitar.
That’s it for today. Have fun and practice!
