Harmonica Almanac – February 11
Blues piano, guitar and harmonica player Phillip Walker was born on this day in 1937. During his career he recorded as a sideman with Fars Domino, Etta James, Jimmy Reed, Little Richard and a host of others.
Blues and Gospel singer Little Johnny Taylor began working in music in the early 1950’s. In addition to singing, Taylor occasionally played the harmonica. Taylor was born on this day in 1943.
Singer Sheryl Crow was born on this day in 1962. Crow sometimes plays the harmonica.
Actor Lee J. Cobb actually won the New York City harmonica contest in 1926. He was approached to join the Harmonica Rascals, but said he’d rather be an actor. Borrah Minevitch told him he’d never make it. Cobb died on this day in 1976.
That’s it for today. Have fun and practice!
