Pere Jean Joseph Marie Amiot was born on this day in 1718. Amiot was a Jesuit missionary who brought the first free-reeded instruments to Europe, ultimately leading to the invention of the harmonica.
Actor Buster Keaton died on this day in 1966. Though he worked in silent films, Keaton played harmonicas on-screen and endorsed Hohner harmonicas.
Blues bass and harmonica player Johnny woods died on this day in 1990. Woods learned to play harmonica in his native Mississippi and recorded one album of his own music.
