Harmonica Almanac – December 30

Chord harmonica player Al Fiore was born on this day in 1922. Al grew up on Chicago’s west side and became friends with Jerry Murad, Pete Pedersen and many other future stars of the harmonica. His chord harmonica solo that open’s the Harmonicats “Peg O’ My Heart” is one of the greatest classics of the harmonica trio genre.

Bluesman Bo Diddley was born on this day in 1928. Best known as a guitarist, Diddley played the harmonica, but usually left the playing to other harmonica players like Billy Boy Arnold and Lester Davenport.
