Harmonica Almanac – December 15

Blues harmonica player Big Golden Wheeler was born on this day in 1929. He began playing the harmonica after hearing Buster Brown on the radio and after moving to Chicago in the 1950’s he became a part of the city’s thriving Blues scene.

Blues singer and harmonica player Mark Hummel has been playing the harmonica since his teens. He’s played with quite a few Blues greats as well as recording several albums of his own. Hummel was born on this day in 1955.

French Blues / Jazz harmonica player Michel Herblin was born on this day in 1958. Herblin has won two Gold medal from international harmonica competitions. He’s worked as a studio musician as well as releasing albums of his own.

Blues and Roots harmonica player Gary Allegretto has been playing the harmonica since he was five years old. In addition to being a world-class harmonica player with four great CD’s under his belt, he has taught thousands of special needs kids to play the harmonica through his nonprofit Harmonikids. Gary was born on this day in 1959.
