Harmonica Almanac – December 13
Matthias Hohner was born on this day in 1833. Hohner, originally a clockmaker, started his harmonica company in his kitchen. By the turn of the 20th century, his company had grown into the largest harmonica company in the world.
Country multi-instrumentalist Buck White plays quite a few instruments, including the harmonica. White has been playing professionally since 1947, recorded quite a few albums of his own as well as appearing on albums by other artists. White was born on this day in 1930.
Country singer-songwriter, guitar and harmonica player John Anderson was born on this day in 1954. Anderson started playing music when he was five and began playing professionally when he was fifteen.
Blues singer, guitar and harmonica player Homesick James died on this day in 2006. James started playing music when he was ten years old. During his career he managed to work with John Lee “Sonny Boy” Williamson, Snooky Pryor and others as well as recording several albums of his own.
