Harmonica Almanac – August 21

Vaudeville chord and chromatic harmonica player Alan Pogson was born on this day in 1915. Pogson played with The Harmonica Hi-Hats and with the Harmonica Rascals. Al Fiore credited him with coming up with the chord harmonica opening for “Peg O’ My Heart”.

Classical harmonica soloist Tommy Reilly was the son of a Canadian harmonica bandleader who wrote several books on how to play the harmonica. He moved with his family to England in 1935 and after World War Two he began a career that would make him one of England’s top Classical harmonica players. Reilly was born on this day in 1919.
