Country guitar and harmonica player John McGhee was born on this day in 1882. McGhee spent a big portion of his career playing with guitarist Frank Welling, recording over 250 songs for various labels.

Blues guitar and harmonica player Woodrow Wilson Adams managed to work with Robert Jr. Lockwood, Sonny Boy Williamson II, Howlin’ Wolf and Robert Nighthawk before he started recording on his own in the mid-1950’s. Adams was born on this day in 1917.

Zydeco guitar and harmonica player Sidney Semien was born on this day in 1938. He began playing professionally when he was 15 years old and recorded several albums throughout his career which stretched well into the 1990’s.

Yank Rachell

Yank Rachell

Blues mandolin and harmonica player James “Yank” Rachell began playing music at the age of eight and by the time he was in his 20’s he was working with John Lee “Sonny Boy Williamson, Big Joe Williams, sleepy John Estes and others. Rachell died on this day in 1997.
