Harmonica Almanac – April 3

Blues harmonica player Adam Gussow was born on this day in 1958. Gussow worked for years with “Mr. Satan” McGhee in the Blues duet Satan and Adam. Gussow got harmonica lessons early on from Nat Riddles.

“Forest City” Joe Pugh died in a car accident on this day in 1960. Forest City Joe began playing music professionally while he was in his teens and during his career work with Big Joe Williams, Sonny Boy Williamson II Howlin’ Wolf and other Blues greats.

Blues singer, guitar and harmonica player Big Daddy Lester Kinsey led his family’s Blues band from the 1980’s until his death. Kinsey passed away on this day in 2001.
