Harmonica Almanac – April 15
U.S. President Abraham Lincoln died on this day in 1865. According to Carl Sandburg, Lincoln played his harmonica at one of the Lincoln-Douglass debates.
Blues singer, guitar and harmonica player Frank Otis Frost learned how to play the harmonica from Little Willie Foster and Sonny Boy Williamson II. He began playing professionally during the mid-1950’s. Frost was born on this day in 1936.
Blues multi-instrumentalist Dewey Corley died on this day in 1974. Corley learned how to play the harmonica as a child growing up in Arkansas. In the mid-1920’s he worked with several jug bands around Memphis. He worked in and out of music for the rest of his life, even recording a few records for several labels before he died.
That’s it for today. Have fun and practice!
